The mind and body even though present in different states, one in thought and one in action, are actually one entity. The body does what the mind believes, similarly the mind will follow where the body leads.

The simple reason behind, “why fake it till you make it works for some people.”

We are a living organism and our system reacts to every little movement in thought and in action. Simple things like how you sit at your work desk, will affect your productivity and energy. Will affect if you approach your work positively or painstakingly.

Eventually if you add everything up in a day, then what you see is a lifestyle. Your lifestyle, is your life. The way you meet people, the way you manage relationships, the way you work on your goals and how satisfied you are with the life you are living.

How centered are you, how open are you to new opportunities, are you in a state always, to step outside your comfort zone? How conscious are you about, how your little everyday habits, like the way you stand, sit, talk, meet, sleep and eat are affecting your life?

If the answer is not much, then buckle up, to get to know 5 amazing simple changes, you make now to your body-language and boost your performance.

1. Keep your spine erect at all times, sit straight, stand tall.

If you visit biology, then your spinal cord is a home to the most number of nerve endings in your entire body, together the brain and the spinal cord are called THE “Central nerves system.”

The CNS is what controls your entire body. The reception of data and command is what goes through it all the time. Every other Organ and function in the body depends upon the CNS to function at its optimum ability.

By Slouching, by stooping and by bending your body at the spine always, you are disrupting the flow of information in your body, the data transfer isn’t as efficient now.

If you go to spirituality, then your life energy flows upward from the spine towards your crown. Enabling the development of your perception and eventually leading to enlightenment.

So by having an undisciplined standing or sitting posture, you are hindering the movement of the most essential and basic function of your body, which in return is clouding your judgement, sapping you off your life energy, killing all the drive and motivation and drowning you into a state of hopelessness and static lifestyle.

Become alert! Change this simple yet a difficult thing to master state now.

Become dynamic by adopting an erect posture at all times. Become active and not reactive. Simply sitting straight and standing erect, will help you master this most Zen like quality. Of being proactive rather than being reactive. Now you got your answer to why monks emphasize sitting straight?

2. Sleep on your back

Now there are two ways to approach this, first sleeping on the side, to be precise on your left side, has digestive benefits, after a heavy meal it’s a good side to sleep on. On the other hand, the best psychological benefits are however provided by sleeping on your back.

The theory goes on like this and Yes! It’s even proven practically, whoever sleeps on their stomach and for longer is basically sad or depressed. someone who cocoons up like a snail is feeling lonely, the ones who sleep on their side, are either anxious or confused.

Out of all, the one who has the soundest mind at the resting chamber, is the king/queen. Remember, that vivid imagery in films or TV shows, where they are shown sleeping on their backs?

Because sleeping on the back portrays this, my hands are visible so I have nothing to hide or fear, as I also do not have a weapon, my chest is open and breathing, I don’t feel vulnerable, because I am proud of my current state in life and I face the world even when I sleep, an attacker may come if he wants to I am fearless in any state.

Therefore loose those earlier 3 styles of sleeping and adopt sleeping on your back at all times.

A complete boost to your self-worth and confidence right while you are sleeping. Cannot get any better. You will wake up feeling very positive about life, ready to take on the day.

3. Smile at all times

If you consciously observe yourself throughout the day, you will notice that this day’s most people are holding a grim look on their face as their resting expression. People are so busy concealing their emotions that all everyone musters up to do every day is hold a blank face.

That is what it really does to you psychologically throughout the day. You feeling clueless and distasteful about your life. No passion and grit and no harmony and zeal, just plain, blank existence. Killing your Performance on the way.

So start smiling even when you don’t feel like it, I mean adopt a subtle smile to carry throughout your day. According to an interesting fact, if you smile physically for 5 seconds, you will start smiling emotionally too.

The mind follows where the body leads.

This makes you appear, friendly, approachable, a person to be around and overall boosts your positivity daily, When you are positive, your performance goes up without a doubt.

4. Walk like soldiers march

Observe how you place your feet on the ground. If you point them outwards while you walk, then change, If you point them haywire while you walk, then change sooner, I mean one facing outward, one inward and they keep cycling between it, while you march forward but your feet are off-center.

Simply walking like that can make you mentally confused and make you directionless in life.

If you have observed how soldiers march, then you can clearly see that they always point their feet, straight and their heels touch the ground first, later their toes. That’s the technique actually if you consciously start placing your heels on the ground first, then your toes, you will naturally walk straight and in a line.

This boosts determination, focus and makes you centered on the direction of your life.

Soldiers have a one-pointed focus towards their duty partly because of this and their other positive and strong body-language.

5. Adopt suitable body-language for the cause

If you are going for an interview, then adopt a confident body language. If you are going on a date, combine confidence with an open body-language which shows you are open to interaction and feedback.

If you are scared, then utilize a brave body-language. Remember, fake it till you make it works, because eventually, it becomes the real you.

Now I don’t want you to be faking things, I just want to say, that use all those tools which are readily available to you in your benefit, if by acting relaxed, you can feel relaxed, then why not do it in a world full of chaos?

Think of that psychological boost, instead of acting like someone else, learn to be disciplined by imitating a disciplined lifestyle, the way a disciplined person holds their body, is because of the diligent practice which they put into whatever they are doing every day. Consistently, which brings forth both psychological and physiological benefits.

Simply by just imitating a body-builder’s body language, you do not become one or you don’t suddenly grow muscles overnight, think of the substance behind the act. By substance I mean, work ethic, learning, practicing and being focused at what they want to achieve. Not substance as a shortcut, if you know what I mean.

Your mind follows where the body leads and your body follows where the mind goes. By keeping the physical aspect in your conscious control, you eventually start changing your behavior, your behavior in return changes your thoughts, then your thoughts start changing the fundamental you.

You can win half the battle first by initially nurturing any one of them, mind or body. But nurturing the body is easier and more convenient as it does not demand any extra time of the day, plus its action-oriented, action-oriented habits or goals, help you make progress faster initially.

When you are in a state to learn and do more that is when you start hitting peak performance.

Conclusion

You can learn about body-language from any book available in the world or from the internet. If you are too curious about this, then you can also start taking acting classes. Whatever suits you.
