We desire for many things and I wonder how many of them are compulsive.

They might not be exactly what you really want but those are now a part of your identity.

Presumably, you will be happier when they are fulfilled but what then?

What’s next?

Which other goose you will be chasing?

That new thing you are yearning for will make you happy for a few years but then what?

Will you want a new one later on?

Can’t make it all about philosophy in this day and age.

You must speak practically.

So, do you worry about the debt cycle?

Unless you have struck gold most big purchases of yours will be on debt.

But hey even debt now has a philosophy.

So let’s not talk about it.

To me, man’s quest seems like a chase of things. Noble and frugal alike. Material and immaterial alike.

Things like meaning, prestige, and recognition.

These are things we need but to what extent?

What’s something really necessary?

Are they worth the trouble we go to for them?

Is it worth it to be anything but happy in this life?

Are they worth fulfilling at the expense of our loved ones?

At the expense of our planet?

When does this chase end?

Above anything else we majorly spend time on these things.

Unrecoverable. Unstoppable.

Hours of anxiety. Years of stress. And moments of unthoughtful desperation.

Is this the ultimate human experience?

Is this the extent of our flight?

Is this the gift of life?

conclusion

These are questions I found myself wondering about and I thought I should share them with you because they seriously question our quest for happiness and our means to achieve it.

Building on this topic I believe you can continue your contemplation on life by watching my video “Thoughts on Life Right Now as a 30 Something Millenial.” I think you will connect with the material more if you fall in that age group.

Please keep in mind these are video essays that have blog posts made up of their written material for people who would rather enjoy reading the content than watching it. However, I have put a lot of love and effort into the videos so I highly encourage you to watch them instead of just reading the content.

if you find them interesting then please do consider subscribing to Soulo’s channel and following it on Instagram.

Having said that I hope you had a thoughtful moment here and I hope to see you around when I publish the next story.
