Giving up is like starting all over again or never doing it at all. You will find it harder to get back on track again if you are from the former group. So the possibility of You facing imminent failure is great.
Reason because if you were very close to achieving success and suddenly you give up for a long duration of time and now somehow you again see meaning and find the desire and motivation to start again, you have to start again from ground zero.
Of course a swimmer does not forget swimming but the swift fine strokes he had developed will not be there, because that’s the cream of all that hard work, learning to be a swimmer is easy, what takes time is mastery and elegant swift skills. So going around doing the basic stuff again is going to be majorly discouraging.
So giving up is a really bad habit, yes! It’s a habit and it can be broken, so let’s get to know when not to give up in life.
1. When you feel like giving up, don’t.
“I hated every minute of training, but I said, “don’t quit. Suffer now and live the rest of your life as a champion.” – Muhammad Ali
That is the most crucial moment and it’s the one most of us will come by. The moment you contemplate over giving up, that precise moment is the time, you should think about it like the quote above. No matter how you feel, no matter how tired you are, does not even matter whatever that which you are going through, just make blunt decision with yourself, tell yourself, this is something very important to me, giving up will feel worse than continuing in the long run, let me just stick to it no matter what.
Sometimes all that mental exhaustion, tension, physical exhaustion, makes us doubtful of our actions, we think are efforts are going in vane and that’s when we start to question ourselves, questioning your own decision to do something is the first step towards giving up. Now quitting an addiction and quitting something worthwhile are completely two different areas, please bear that in mind and both require a different mindset.
Questioning yourselves when you are on the wrong path is a good sign, questioning yourself, When you are committed to a valuable goal is self-doubt, don’t let that bother you, just decide no matter what, whatever happens, if I need to wait for something to happen to find out the right path I will, but as of now I will continue on this path with full determination, until I become wiser or this work is finished.
2. When you don’t feel like doing it. Do it.
“Pursue one great decisive aim with force and determination.” – Carl von Clausewitz
This is the kind of giving up you face daily, this is the kind of giving up that leads, to ultimately giving up entirely. That one day you don’t feel like doing something, is the one day that you must do it exceptionally well, with full force and determination. Actually do double the work that day. Teach your mind, to do more work on days that it wants to skip and it will learn the joy of doing something religiously.
Whenever you have thoughts about skipping a day of work or practice or training, depending upon what you are doing, just go ahead and do that thing directly without a second thought. The moment after the warm up, by warm up I mean after the initial 5 to 10 minutes, you will feel great joy, great enthusiasm surging from within you.
Positive waves of emotion will fill your body and you will feel like, that you have achieved something magnificent, you will feel like that you are unstoppable. You will feel like nothing in this world can distract or stop you from achieving what you want. It’s a powerful feeling and a fine motivator. I encourage you to feel that, and try this technique, whenever you don’t’ want to do something, Do it with full force and double the work.
3. When you think that something is difficult.
“If it was easy everybody will do it.” – The internet
So often in life people fail to achieve their true potential because they thought it was easy. Nothing in life comes easy, you might have heard this a thousand times by now, however did you ever really contemplate over it, have you internalized that understanding within you? Do you understand that it silently asks for full commitment and great deal of sacrifices on all levels, if you want something, which is very valuable?
Anyone doing something for a quick bang for their buck, will give up sooner than expected. They approached the situation with a wrong mindset to start with. They will fail inevitably.
Success is attained by all the lessons you learn while you are busy not giving up. Whenever you decide to go beyond comfort and discomfort and just become determined to give something all you have got, the valuable lessons life will teach you, will be the key to success. Now until you learn those lessons, success won’t be yours.
So whenever something gets tough, something gets difficult to sustain and something becomes chaotically difficult to manage, that’s when you say, “you don’t know who you are dealing with.” “So you think this little hurdles along the way are enough to topple me off the track?” “Whatever you might think, I am going to show you, how great I am.”
Use your ego to your benefit, that’s positive use of ego. When life throws challenges at you, you start throwing challenges at life, saying “what else you got?”
4. When you say “why me?”
“A small body of determined spirits fired by an unquenchable faith in their mission can alter the course of history.” – Mahatma Gandhi
Don’t say why me, always say try me. It’s always try me. Reason behind adopting this mindset is because it will save you from self-pity and make you a force of determination. People will be inspired by your actions. They will see that through the thick and thin, you never seem to be complaining, seeking sympathy or feeling discouraged by your situation.
What they will see is a confident person, who understands the importance of not giving up, who has a positive outlook at life and instead of agonizing about your situation, you are actively seeking ways of staying on track, fulfilling your duties and making sure this tough times do not turn you bitter but better.
Never pity your situation, always know that hardest of the battles are fought by the greatest of the generals. All your life situations are tailor made for you, if you learn to deal with them effectively instead of drowning in self-pity and doing nothing, it will give you instrumental experiences, it will teach you how to live a more meaningful life.
I always utter those words“A meaningful life” I really believe in that aspect of living, if you find out the meaning of your life, it’s the most valuable gift you will ever receive.
Persistence, confidence and positive outlook at life during tough times will guide you in that direction. By finding that meaning you will emerge victorious every time.
5. When you fear failure
“No pressure, No diamonds.” – Thomas Carlyle
Fear of failure is the worst kind of fear. It’s like being afraid of a clown. When you become afraid of failing and decide to quit, that is when true failure occurs. A funny clown scared you because of your own imagination. See if there is a competition, there are bound to be a few winners and a few losers.
However understand those are just terms, which we use to denote a certain state. A winner is someone who has achieved peak performance and a looser is someone who needs to put in more work.
The important part of it is to face the arena. The exhilarating feeling of testing your abilities against the best of the best from your fraternity. The feeling of being the center of attention. Instead of being just a spectator you challenged yourself to be someone who faces the arena, holds more value.
Winning or losing does not hold any value, of course it has certain perceived value in our lives, because as humans, we desire name, fame, money and recognition. Sometimes more than a novelty, it’s a need as well, however understand this, what matters is whether you are living your life to your fullest potential? Whether you are creating amazing memories along the way? Whether you are living back a legacy of determination, positivity, truth and faith behind you when you leave this plane.
Because the values you leave behind will continue to leave on in the hearts of people whose lives were touched by you. This modern life is creating such unrealistic expectations within us all,That we all want to be someone great in the world, we all want to live our lives that the select few live and in that pursuit we are pressurizing ourselves beyond repair, and losing the true essence of life, which is happiness.
So know that pressure is necessary for success but do not fear failure, living a more purposeful life and reaching your full potential is all that matters. Don’t give up just because you fear failure, at least give yourself the opportunity to fail by not giving up in the beginning itself.
Conclusion
So giving up is really bad, I mean very bad, please don’t do that, just try and just keep trying alright? I mean what will you lose if you just keep trying? You might just earn something extraordinary which you did not think about before. I mean why on earth would you ever want to quit? Stop justifying it already, stop playing the devils lawyer.
Become a man/woman of action and don’t take no *hit. Whatever comes your way, just say “bring it on.” Don’t quiver like a rat, roar like a lion. Let the whole world know who they are dealing with. Let the whole world know what nerves of steel mean.
Show the world, what an unstoppable force looks like. Also please don’t forget to do it in style, don’t look like a homeless person, I mean I do all the time, cause due to work, I don’t get so much time to focus on how I look, but let’s start looking as we preach as well, what say?
